Transit System: Campbell River
Campbell River – Starting August 28, BC Transit riders in Campbell River will see increased service, better connections, and route frequency. The increase in service includes an additional 1,500 service hours and system optimization.
“Transit riders should be able to depend on efficient, timely and reliable bus service in their communities to get them to the places they need to go,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure and MLA for North Island Claire Trevena. “I look forward to working with B.C. Transit on how we can continue to make transit improvements in communities all across B.C.”
The main changes to the system include:
-
New more direct routing with more frequent service including an increase peak frequency to 20 minutes Monday to Friday on Dogwood and 16th Avenue
-
Better connections between Willow Point and Campbellton
-
Reduced transfers
“Riding the bus is becoming increasingly popular in Campbell River, and these changes will help make it even more convenient to be part of the growing trend to use the transit system,” says Drew Hadfield, City of Campbell River Transportation Manager.
Development of the service plan included input from over 160 people during public engagement in the winter of 2017. This feedback received help shape the new routes and schedules to best meet the needs of the community.
“Expanding transit service in Campbell River will allow us to better connect people and communities,” said Erinn Pinkerton, BC Transit Vice-President of Business Development. “We will continue to work with our partners to deliver effective and efficient transit services in Campbell River and across the province.”
The Campbell River Transit System provides over 604,000 rides annually with 10 bus routes and serves almost 240 stops. The expansion will support increasing the number of rides annually by making it easier for people to take the transit system.
