The first 40-foot electric bus will arrive in Whistler this week.
In total, Whistler is scheduled to receive 15 electric buses. Four will arrive between now and October and the remaining 11 are scheduled for delivery in spring 2027.
The first batch of electric buses will be used to train employees ahead of entering service later this year. People can expect to see electric buses on local roads during the training period. BC Transit will share more details about electric bus in-service dates in the coming months.
In total, 125 heavy-duty electric buses will be delivered to eight BC Transit systems between now and the end of 2027 and early 2028, including Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Nelson, Powell River, Sunshine Coast, Greater Victoria and Whistler.
BC Transit electrification projects are funded through the Zero Emission Transit Fund and the Public Transit Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. Investments total more than $424 million and are jointly funded by the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia and with contributions from local government partners.
