Electric Bus infrastructure construction to begin

A new chapter in BC Transit’s sustainability journey is underway.

The first 10 electric buses are coming to the Victoria Regional Transit system in summer 2023, marking the start of BC Transit’s transformation to an entirely electric fleet by 2040.

Infrastructure construction to support the electric buses is starting in April at BC Transit’s Victoria Gorge Road location. Infrastructure includes 10 charging dispensers, power distribution equipment, and one overhead charger for high-speed charging and testing.

The public will not be impacted by construction and no traffic disruptions are expected.

In December, BC Transit welcomed the delivery of an electric demonstration bus supplied by Proterra. The demonstration bus is providing valuable learning opportunities, helping BC Transit get ready to put BC Transit’s first 10 electric buses on the road in 2023.

BC Transit will share more about where and when people can ride the demonstration bus in the coming months.
