Cowichan Valley Commuter Ridership on the Rise

COWICHAN VALLEY – BC Transit, the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) and the Victoria Regional Transit Commission (VRTC) are pleased to announce ridership on the Cowichan Valley commuter service is on the rise – up 7.3% over last year. In its Annual Report, BC Transit celebrated the Cowichan Valley commuter as a market leader in rides with 86,294 passenger trips in 2013/14 as compared with 80,455 in 2012/13.

“I commend local governments for coming together to provide transit service that meets the needs of residents for both internal, and inter-community travel,” said Todd Stone, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “This cooperation is what builds customer loyalty and a strong transportation network.”

“We are pleased to see the continued growth and success of the Cowichan Valley Commuter service and the important transit connections it provides between our region and the Capital Regional District,” said CVRD Board Chair Rob Hutchins.

“The Commission is delighted to see a growing number of people are finding BC Transit is the most efficient and effective way to commute over the Malahat to BC’s capital,” said VRTC Chair Susan Brice.

“The Cowichan Valley commuter continues to grow and is a fine example of a regional connector with strong local support,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha.
