Bus security camera installation begins in Powell River

Powell River – Phased installation is now underway of closed-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras on four BC Transit buses in Powell River. All medium- and heavy-duty buses acquired after 2005 will have the cameras installed, and new buses, 27 feet and longer, will be delivered with the cameras already factory-installed.

To date, over 400 buses have had CCTV cameras installed and have showed positive results.

The estimated budget to equip the four buses with this new technology is approximately $19,000. The installation is funded by the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund, which is contributing $160 million to projects across British Columbia.

For more information on the project, how the cameras will operate, and the results from the 2015-16 pilot project, please consult the Questions and Answers. To find out more about BC Transit’s privacy policy, please visit the privacy section.
