VICTORIA – BC Transit and the Victoria Regional Transit Commission (VRTC) are pleased to announce transit service is coming to Bear Mountain and Westhills in the West Shore.
Effective December 29, 2014 the new Route #52 Colwood Bear Mountain will run seven days a week and will offer 30 minute peak-time service. The Route #57 Westhills will see hourly service to the Langford Exchange. The Western Transit Exchange, adjacent to the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre, will be renamed the Colwood Transit Exchange. BC Transit will also extend a commuter service to Latoria Road and Happy Valley.
Other improvements include a new commuter service in West Sidney. The new Route #71 Swartz Bay/Downtown will start at the Swartz Bay ferry terminal, travel through West Sidney to the McTavish Transit Exchange. From the transit exchange the new route #71 will be an express run with limited stops to downtown Victoria.
The Route #10 Royal Jubilee/Songhees will see route changes to provide more frequent service on Bay Street and as a result will no longer travel on Esquimalt Road. Esquimalt customers will benefit from added trips on the Route 15X UVic/Esquimalt.
Increased service is coming to the Route #14 UVic / Vic General to address capacity issues and improve service reliability. Plus service on the Route #25 Maplewood / Colwood Exchange is being adjusted to align with school schedules and better serve Esquimalt area students.
The winter service improvements were designed in response to feedback from BC Transit customers, front-line staff, major employers in Greater Victoria and local governments. The changes were achieved by maximizing existing resources. The service enhancements reflect the goals region’s 25 year Transit Future Plan.
