BC Transit's back-to-school (or work) refresher

The first two weeks after Labour Day are usually the busiest for any transit system.

We encourage everyone to choose a sustainable transportation option, like biking, walking… or taking the bus, of course!

But how do you get a smoother commute during these exceptionally busy weeks? Check out these handy BC Transit tips:

Plan ahead

  • Arrive at your stop about five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive
  • Have your fare ready before the bus shows up–remember: using a bus pass or tickets will help you board faster!
  • If you need help planning you route ahead of time, visit bctransit.com or call your local transit office. In the Comox Valley, Nanaimo, Squamish, Whistler and Kamloops you can also access NextRide to find out where your bus is in real time. In other select transit systems you can plan your route using our online Trip Planner

Be patient

There maybe unexpected delays due to congestion or other factors outside our control, but we promise we’ll get you where you’re going. Please be patient with our staff and your fellow transit users.

Adjust your personal commute

Ridership increases dramatically during peak times (i.e., rush hour.) If you’re able to, consider adjusting your schedule to take an earlier or later bus–it can make a big difference for you, our drivers and your fellow passengers.

Use good bus ettiquete

  • If the bus is crowded, move towards the back and avoid crowding the exits
  • Keep your backpack on your lap or (if you’re standing) on the floor between your feet
  • Remember: the courtesy seting area at the front of the bus helps customers who use scooters, wheelchairs or other mobility aids, or those who have a disability or mobility issue, as well as passengers with baby strollers.
