Transit System: Fort St. John
FORT ST. JOHN – On March 21, 2012 BC Transit, in partnership with
the City of Fort St. John and Pacific Western Transportation, is extending its
service hours in honour of the Man in Motion Rick Hansen. For one night only
routes #1 (Northside) and #2 (Southside) that normally finish their days at
7:15pm will run until approximately 9pm and will include modified service to
the Pomeroy Hotel.
The City of Fort St John will host a Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Celebration
at the Pomeroy Hotel from 7 to 8:30pm. “Difference Makers” in the
community will be presented with a Rick Hansen Medal by the Canadian pioneer
whose extraordinary journey inspired all Canadians to lead healthy and more
inclusive lives. The free event is open to all.
A quarter century ago Rick Hansen changed the way the world reviews people
with physical and mobility issues with his Man in Motion Tour. Hansen is now
making his way to some of those communities that supported his cross-Canada
fundraiser but were missed on his tour, including Fort St. John.
“We are delighted to extend our service hours to ensure everyone in Fort
St. John can meet the Man in Motion and cheer on their own Difference Makers,”
said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha.
BC Transit’s operating partner Pacific Western Transportation is pleased
to cover the additional costs of staffing the extended service hours as show
of support for Rick Hansen and the celebrated community leaders in Fort St.
John.
