WEST KELOWNA – On January 25, 2012, Residents from the District
of West Kelowna are invited to preview and comment on the proposed transit exchange
locations at Westbank Centre and Boucherie Centre.
Building on the success of Phase 1 of the RapidBus BC Project, BC Transit is
extending the RapidBus network from Kelowna to Westbank Centre through Phases
2 & 3 of the Project. This project includes the creation of two new transit
exchanges with enhanced bus services, branded shelters, and passenger information
displays in West Kelowna as part of the implementation.
“West Kelowna Council is faced with making an important decision regarding
RapidBus Transit exchange locations in our community. It is vital that we hear
from the members of the public who are impacted, including current and future
transit users, as well as businesspeople and property owners in the areas being
considered,” says Mayor Doug Findlater. “Please attend this important
information meeting and tell us what you think or submit your comments online.”
“It is important that the local community has had the opportunity to provide
comments on the RapidBus project.” said Manuel Achadinha, President and
CEO of BC Transit. “Successful transit requires the input of the community.”
“Residents of West Kelowna have an opportunity to provide their feedback
into the plan to expand RapidBus BC service to our community,” said Westside-Kelowna
MLA Ben Stewart. “Transit service is most successful with the input of
the community so I encourage residents and businesses to come out to the open
house.”
BC Transit and the District of West Kelowna are inviting residents of West
Kelowna to comment on the conceptual designs and locations proposed for the
transit exchanges. The project team will use this feedback to ensure the recommended
options reflect the vision of the local community.
