BC Transit Rider Appreciation on Salt Spring Island

SALT SPRING ISLAND – On Thursday June 28, 2012 BC Transit celebrates our dedicated Salt Spring Island customers.

BC Transit Chief Operating Officer Mike Davis, CRD Director for Salt Spring Island Wayne McIntyre and Salt Spring Island Transportation Commission Chair Donald McLennan invite you to join us at the Ganges Visitors’ Centre from noon to 1 pm for stickers, safety lights, cupcakes and home-grown fruit.

The celebration marks the first anniversary of expanded service on Salt Spring Island that included Sunday and statutory holiday runs plus better bus connections to ferry terminals. We changed our service and you responded! Ridership on Salt Spring Island jumped 29 per cent from 63,649 in 2010/2011 to 81,787 in 2011/12.

This year BC Transit is introducing a $5 Day Pass for Salt Spring Island. As of July 1st, the Day Pass can be purchased from CRD-endorsed vendors on the Island.

Also on July 1, 2012 cash fares are increasing by $.25 to $2.25 for adults, seniors and students. The cost of monthly passes will not change.
