BC Transit Recognized with Natural Gas Transit Fleet Program 2019 Award from NGVAmerica

BC Transit is being recognized with the Natural Gas Transit Fleet Program 2019 award from Natural Gas Vehicle America. Clean Energy, our partner that builds and maintains our compressed natural gas fueling stations, nominated BC Transit for the award.
Compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and fueling was introduced within the BC Transit fleet in Nanaimo in 2014. Since the delivery of the first 25 CNG buses, we now have 128 CNG buses across the province. Starting next year, we will start introducing CNG buses to Victoria and the Central Fraser Valley. With expansion in our current CNG communities and the two new communities, we will welcome 34 medium duty and 68 heavy duty compressed natural gas buses to the provincial fleet in 2020.
As an organization we have seen greenhouse gas reductions and financial savings due to the investment in CNG buses. The continued investment in CNG buses is part of our Low Carbon Fleet Program and will help us reduce our carbon footprint while we transition to a fully electric fleet by 2040. We will also continue to work with our partners at FortisBC to identify potential renewable natural gas options.
