BC Transit is launching a new Fare Awareness and Enforcement Program to educate riders about fares, their payment options, and the importance of paying the correct fare.
Riders are encouraged to visit bctransit.com/fare-aware to learn about accepted fare payment methods, prices, and eligibility for concession fare products. The site also includes examples of fare evasion and describes the measures planned to identify and correct the issue.
Starting July 7, uniformed Transit Supervisors will be engaging with riders aboard the bus, at exchanges, and other areas across the Victoria Regional Transit System identified to need a higher-level of rider support. Riders will see Transit Supervisors aboard the bus checking fares visually and with a digital handheld device. Riders evading fare payment will be spoken to and receive educational materials. As the program continues, BC Transit plans to introduce stronger enforcement measures.
BC Transit would like to remind riders that it partners with several organizations to support individuals unable to pay their fare.
