VICTORIA – For the second year in a row, BC Transit and its employees are partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society in support of Daffodil Month in Greater Victoria. Nearly 300 BC Transit buses in the Victoria Regional System will have “Join the Fight. Wear a Daffodil.” signs in the windows and BC Transit staff are encouraged to wear daffodil pins to further draw awareness to the campaign.
The Province, a substantial partner in the delivery of public transit, is also pleased to support the Daffodil Month campaign.
“BC Transit does more than transport people safely to their destinations,” said Todd Stone, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “The highly-visible presence of buses in our communities can also be used for important messages such as support for people who have been affected by cancer.”
“In honour of BC Transit employees and their family members who are currently battling cancer and for those who have bravely faced a diagnosis, we hope our awareness campaign brings greater awareness to the vital efforts of the Canadian Cancer Society,” said BC Transit Vice President and COO Brian Anderson.
Over the last 76 years, the Canadian Cancer Society has funded more than $1.2 billion dollars to life-saving cancer research programs across the country. Money raised during Daffodil Month supports the Society’s continued efforts in preventing cancer through raising awareness, advocating for healthy public policies, funding research and offering support and services to cancer patients and their loved ones.
“The reality is, two in five Canadians will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime and they need our support,” said Canadian Cancer Society Vancouver Island Regional Director Brian LeFurgey. “By making a donation and wearing a daffodil pin in April, you show people living with cancer that they are not alone and there is hope in the fight. Together, we can change cancer forever.”
