BC Transit Helps Launch Daffodil Month

VICTORIA – BC Transit and its employees are honoured to partner with the Canadian Cancer Society, in its 75th anniversary year, by launching the 2013 Daffodil Month campaign in Greater Victoria.

Nearly 300 BC Transit buses in the Victoria Regional System will have “Join the Fight. Wear a Daffodil.” signs in the windows and BC Transit staff are encouraged to wear daffodil pins all month long to further draw awareness to the campaign.

The Government of British Columbia, a substantial partner in the delivery of public transit in the province, is also pleased to support the Daffodil Month campaign.

“Cancer affects many of us,” said MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head Ida Chong. “These daffodil pins serve as a subtle yet powerful reminder for all of us to reach out and support cancer patients and their families, as funds are used to support programs, services and cancer research. I encourage everyone to support the Daffodil Month Campaign.”

“Many members of the BC Transit family have bravely faced a cancer diagnosis,” said BC Transit Vice-President and CIO Brian Anderson. “Through the Daffodil Month campaign, we hope to make a small contribution to the vital efforts of the Canadian Cancer Society and to show our support for those battling this disease.”

Over the past 75 years, the Canadian Cancer Society has directed $1.5 billion dollars to cancer research programs across the country.

Money raised during Daffodil Month supports the Society’s continued efforts in preventing cancer through raising awareness, advocating for healthy public policies, funding research and offering support and service programs to cancer patients, their families and caregivers.

“By making a donation and wearing a daffodil pin, you show people living with cancer they are not alone on their journey,” said Canadian Cancer Society Vancouver Island Regional Director Kathy Ilott. “We encourage everyone to unite in the fight against cancer by wearing the daffodil pin throughout April and, most importantly, on Daffodil Day April 27.”

For 75 years, the Society has demonstrated a deep commitment to excellence and research and support, by reducing the incidence rates, discovering cures or finding unique solutions for the more than 200 different types of cancer.
