VICTORIA – Canada Day always brings out celebrations of all shapes and sizes around the Capital Region, and BC Transit is pleased to provide special services to get people to and from the festivities safely and conveniently.
Transit in Greater Victoria will run on a Saturday schedule on July 1 with late-night service on some routes: the last buses on the 4, 6, 14, 15, 27, 28, and 50 routes will leave from downtown Victoria between 1:15 and 1:30 a.m. Extra buses will be added through the day as required. Some 35 to 40 buses will be standing by along the Douglas Street corridor, to start leaving downtown Victoria right after the fireworks show on the Inner Harbour.
“July 1 is a special day, when we can all share our pride as Canadians and connect with others in our community to celebrate together,” said President and CEO, Manuel Achadinha. “We encourage people to choose BC Transit as a safe and efficient way to get around and enjoy all the events.”
BC Transit will work in partnership with law enforcement around the Capital Region to ensure that Canada Day festivities are fun and family-friendly. For the seventh consecutive year, there will be no alcohol permitted on board BC Transit buses for the entire service day. This one-day regulation applies to liquor in closed containers as well as open containers. Signs will be posted in advance at bus stops, advising customers of this one-day regulation.
“Our officers will be out early and in large numbers in support of a safe, family-friendly celebration of our nation,” said Acting Chief Const. Del Manak. “We’ll be supporting BC Transit’s efforts to keep Canada Day celebrations in Victoria and Esquimalt safe and fun for all to enjoy responsibly.
Regular fares will apply. Purchase the convenient $5 DayPASS onboard your bus and you can ride all day on buses anywhere in the region. An adult with a DayPASS may also bring up to four children aged 12 and under at no additional charge. Those carrying a monthly pass, U-Pass, ProPASS or BC Bus Pass also qualify for the Family Travel offer.
Please note that, due to heavy traffic and delays, because of anticipated crowds and delays, please anticipate delays on our system.
