BC Transit Goes Loonie on Canada Day

COMOX VALLEY – A dollar doesn’t take you very far these days, unless you’re taking BC Transit to Canada Day celebrations in the Comox Valley.

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and BC Transit are pleased to offer loonie rides on Monday, July 1, 2013. The one day discount is intended to encourage residents to leave their driving and parking worries at home on Canada’s 146th birthday.

Whether transit customers are attending the Canada Day Grande Parade on 5th Street, taking in events at Lewis and Simms Parks or having a quiet celebration with friends and family; transit is the safe and reliable way to travel.

“Loonie rides will make it easy for people to go to town and celebrate Canada Day with their family and friends,” said Comox Valley MLA Don McRae. “Leave your vehicles behind, and take a loonie ride down to the Canada Day celebrations.”

“Along with all the other great Canada Day celebration events, the ‘transit future bus’ will be in Lewis Park on July 1st,” said CVRD board chair Edwin Grieve. “The BC Transit team will be on board to answer questions and listen to your ideas. This is a great opportunity for anyone with something to say about Comox Valley transit to talk with those in the know.”

“Make transit part of your Canada Day celebrations,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “The discounted fare is a terrific incentive for both our loyal customers and new comers to enjoy the many benefits of public transportation.”
