VICTORIA – On Saturday, May 5, the Honourable Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, Catherine Holt, BC Transit Board of Directors Chair, and Erinn Pinkerton, Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of BC Transit, recognized the achievements of BC Transit employees who have shown a commitment to safety.
“Marking 20-years of accident-free driving is an impressive achievement, especially given the complexities and skill involved in driving a transit bus,” said Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “I’d like to congratulate the recipients of this award and thank all the hard-working transit drivers who are committed to safety on the job.”
Recipients of BC Transit’s Million Miler award attended a special event at Government House to recognize and celebrate reaching 20 consecutive years of driving without a preventable accident—the approximate equivalent of driving a million miles safely and without incident.
“The Million Miler Award is a wonderful way to celebrate our most accomplished transit drivers,” said the Honourable Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. “Their safety and service on the road is a shining example for all British Columbians.”
Established in 1978, the Million Miler Award has been presented to 155 BC Transit drivers in Victoria. This year’s recipients are Betsy Lockwood and Darwin Moseley.
“At BC Transit, safety is our top priority,” said Erinn Pinkerton, BC Transit Interim President and Chief Executive Officer. “Earning Million Miler status is a huge accomplishment, and I sincerely congratulate Betsy and Darwin for reaching this milestone. I would also like to thank them—and all our Million Milers—for their commitment to the safety of their past, present and future customers.”
