BC Transit congratulates the Million Miler Award and 50,000 Club Award recipients in Victoria

VICTORIA – On Saturday, May 4, Catherine Holt, BC Transit Board of Directors Chair and Erinn Pinkerton, President and Chief Executive Officer of BC Transit, recognized the achievements of BC Transit employees who have shown a commitment to safety.

“Whether we are going to school or work, or visiting friends or family, our bus drivers and maintenance staff play an important role in our daily lives,” said Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “Congratulations to the recipients of these awards and thank you to all the hard-working transit drivers and maintenance staff for their dedication and commitment to safety.”

“Public transit is an essential service that creates accessibility for so many British Columbians.” Said the Honourable Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. “It was an honour to recognize the hard work and dedication to safety of BC Transit employees at BC Government House.”

Established in 1978, the Million Miler Award is for drivers that have driven 20 consecutive years without a preventable accident – the approximate equivalent of driving a million miles safely and without incident. This year’s recipient is Larry Rollier.

Established in 2016, the 50,000 Club Award recognizes employees in safety sensitive positions, including maintenance and warehouse staff, who have 20 consecutive years of safe work without a preventable accident – the approximate equivalent of working 50,000 hours. This year’s recipient is Bruce Head.

“At BC Transit, safety is our top priority,” said Erinn Pinkerton, BC Transit President and Chief Executive Officer. “Whether driving or working in a safety sensitive position, 20 consecutive years of safety is a huge accomplishment and I sincerely congratulate Larry Rollier and Bruce Head for reaching these milestones. I would also like to thank them—and all our staff — for their commitment to safety.”
