VICTORIA – BC Transit and City of Victoria are playing host to 300 transit
experts from across the country and the United States. The Canadian Urban Transit
Association is holding its annual conference in Victoria from May 26 to 29.
For more than 100 years CUTA has been bringing transit operators together to
discuss common problems and to promote universal solutions.
BC Transit uses data collected by CUTA to compare our ridership numbers and
operating costs. The most recent data in 2010 shows Victoria conventional transit
sees 70 passenger trips per capita compared to the national average of 50 passenger
trips per capita when comparing transit systems with population bases of 150,000
to 499,000. BC Transit’s operating costs are $3 per passenger. The national
average, according to CUTA, is $3.51 per passenger in similarly populated centres.
Media is invited to the CUTA breakfast on Monday, May 28 at 8 am. The keynote
speakers are BC Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Blair Lekstrom, Victoria
Regional Transit Commission Chair Susan Brice and Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin.
