Back-to-school (and work!) commuter refresher

Corporate – The first couple of weeks after Labour Day are traditional the busiest for any transit system. We encourage everyone to make a sustainable transportation choice, such as biking, walking or taking the bus, of course!

If you choose to take the bus, we have a few tips to help make your commute smoother–especially during these exceptionally busy weeks:

Plan ahead

  • Arrive at your stop about five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive
  • Have your fare ready before the bus shows up–remember that bus passes or tickets will help speed up your boarding time
  • Plan your route ahead of time by visiting BCTransit.com or calling your local transit office. In the Comox Valley, Nanaimo, Squamish, Whistler and Kamloops you can see where your bus is in real-time using NextRide. In other select transit systems you can plan your trip online using the Trip Planner available from your transit system’s website

Be patient

There may be unexpected delays due to congestion or other factors out of our control–please be patient with our staff and your fellow transit users

Adjust your personal commute

Ridership increases dramatically during peak times/rush hour. If you’re able to, consider adjusting your scheudule to take an earlier or later bus. It can make a big difference!

While you’re on the bus

  • When the bus is full, remember to move as far to the back as you’re able and avoid blocking the exitway
  • Keep your backpack on your lap or on the floor between your feet, if you’re standing
  • Remember that the accessible front area of the bus is courtesy seating to help customers who use scooters, wheelchairs or other mobility aids, those with a disability or mobility issue, and parents with baby strollers
