27 May 2026

FIFA World Cup 2026 is expected to generate increased public transit demand this June and July.

BC Transit and our local government partners in the Central Fraser Valley, Regional District of Nanaimo, and Victoria Regional Transit Systems will be enhancing services where possible to support customers looking to experience game days with sustainable transportation options.

BC Transit will dispatch available buses to respond to increased demand on existing routes, particularly those connecting with BC Ferries, Hullo Ferries, and TransLink services.

In the Central Fraser Valley Transit System, additional service will be provided, where resources allow, on routes 2, 31, 33 and 66 (FVX) to support connections with TransLink service. Extra FVX trips will also be added to meet customers at Lougheed Station, including additional late-night service following games on June 13, June 26 and July 2. These extra post-game trips will be reflected in trip planning tools, and customers are encouraged to use the Umo app, Google Transit, or their preferred transit app for real-time bus tracking and trip planning information.

In the Regional District of Nanaimo Transit System, additional service on Route 25 will be provided, where resources allow, to support travel to and from the BC Ferries Departure Bay and Hullo Ferry terminals.

In the Victoria Regional Transit System, available resources will be deployed to meet demand and support service capacity on the routes 70, 70X and 72 servicing the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal.

Please note that additional buses deployed in response to demand in the Regional District of Nanaimo and Victoria Regional Transit Systems will not appear in real-time tracking or trip planning apps.

Customers can also now tap to pay using a debit card, credit card or mobile wallet in all 30 transit systems across the province that offer Umo. Contactless payments remove payment barriers, making it easier for people to choose public transit. More information is available here: https://www.bctransit.com/contactless/. For more information on the services provided by our partner agencies, please visit, bcferries.com, hullo.com and translink.ca.

Our organization would like to thank our provincial and local government partners for funding this additional service and supporting sustainable transportation.
