Kamloops – Starting Sunday, June 24, transit users in Kamloops will find it easier to get around in the summer thanks to the addition of close to 1,500 new service hours dedicated exclusively to this seasonal service.
“We are always happy to work closely with BC Transit to be able to offer improved ridership based on usage and public feedback in our community.” said City of Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian.
In response to public feedback, BC Transit and the City of Kamloops increased summer service levels last year and are now introducing further improvements, including greater frequency on routes 1 Tranquille and 9 Gleneagles. As a result, summer service on these routes during rush hour will more closely resemble fall/winter service levels.
“We’re pleased to be able to introduce these new service hours to better connect people in Kamloops over the summer,” said Erinn Pinkerton, Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of BC Transit. “These improvements are possible thanks to strong demand for public transit and feedback from the community.”
Other minor seasonal changes will affect routes 2 Parkcrest and 3 Westsyde. Transit service levels typically ramp down every summer to account for lower ridership when schools are not in session. Reducing service when there is lower demand makes it possible to offer better service during busier seasons.
