The new technology gives you more ways to book and manage your trips, as well as clearer communication about when your bus arrives. You can:

  • Book trips by phone, website or app
  • Book online with 24/7 access
  • Book up to 7 days in advance
  • Register for handyDART online
  • Track your vehicle and view updates in real time
  • Manage upcoming trips and view past trips in one place

The new technology allows you to manage your trips without calling in.

Using the app or website, you can:

  • Book, change or cancel trips anytime
  • View trip details and real-time updates
  • See when your vehicle is on the way
  • Give access to family members or caregivers who help manage your trips.

The handyDART service itself is not changing. You can still:

  • Book trips by phone
  • Use existing payment methods

In addition, eligibility rules are not changing for handyDART riders, and service hours and service areas remain the same.

The service itself is not changing; the new technology simply adds more options for you, your family and your care teams to register for handyDART and manage your trips.

The experience customers have while using the service may change. A rider’s operator, route or fellow passengers may change from trip to trip.

BC Transit knows that changes to a trusted service can be challenging. Our responsibility is to preserve the safe, accessible service riders depend on while making it available to more people across the province.

The new dispatch system plans trips as needs change throughout the day, helping BC Transit use available vehicles more efficiently and provide more rides.

Every operator is trained to provide safe, respectful, and accessible service.

Riders in Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Mission received early access to the technology beginning September 9.

The system will roll out soon across the province in every BC Transit system that provides handyDART.

Changes to dispatch and pickups

Demand for handyDART continues to grow. The new system helps make better use of available vehicles and allows routes to be adjusted throughout the day.

This means:

  • More flexibility to book new trips when trips are cancelled or changed
  • Better use of available buses and operators
  • More opportunities to accommodate trips for riders

When booking a trip, you can choose what matters most.

  • Leave at: Your pickup may be up to 30 minutes after your requested time
  • Arrive by: Your drop-off may be up to 30 minutes before your requested time.

For example, choose “leave at” if you need to stay somewhere until a specific time, or “arrive by” if you need to reach an appointment before it starts.

No. The new dispatch system may assign different operators as routes are adjusted throughout the day.
