BC Transit and the Victoria Regional Transit Commission are advising riders of a fare change effective April 1, 2025.
In 2024, following a significant fare review process that included public engagement, the Victoria Regional Transit Commission approved a price increase for select fares on fixed-route and handyDART services. The last formal fare change took place in 2010, and fares have not increased since then.
Effective on April 1, 2025, the fare collected for a single ride is $3.00 and the price of a DayPASS increases to $6.00. Sheets of 10 Single Ride tickets, sold for the exclusive use of handyDART riders, adjusts to $30. The price for Concession 30-Day Pass ($45) and Adult 30-Day Pass ($85) and all other specialty passes remain unchanged.
The price of impacted fare products changes universally regardless of a rider’s preferred payment method or retail outlet. Prior to travelling, riders using the Umo app or reloadable Umo card are advised to confirm that they have a sufficient Cash Balance loaded to cover the updated price deducted for single ride. Riders using the Umo app or card will still have their fare automatically capped and converted to a DayPASS upon the second Cash Balance payment of the day.
The cost of operating transit has increased, as has the demand for service with an ever-growing population. This fare increase will support BC Transit’s ability to improve and expand on service in the region in the coming years. All decisions around fares and service levels are determined by the Victoria Regional Transit Commission.
