Heat Warning in Effect

BC Transit is reminding customers that Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for many communities in British Columbia beginning this weekend and extending through early next week.

High temperatures affect everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

It’s important to watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

To reduce your risk of heat-related illness, make sure to: Stay hydrated Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day Wear light, loose clothing, and a hat If working outside, take breaks and find shade.

Please check on older family, friends and neighbours, and never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

If you or someone you know are in medical distress or experiencing a medical emergency, please call 9-1-1. Contact HealthLinkBC at 8-1-1 to ask about heat-related illness or 2-1-1 for more information.
