MERRITT – Come help us celebrate the 5th Anniversary of Merritt
Transit! Ridership has grown more than 200% in five years.
In November 2007, BC Transit introduced service in Merritt with four routes
providing 10.5 hours service hours daily from Monday to Friday.
Now Merritt Transit runs Monday to Saturday, delivering 15 service hours daily.
Ridership has increased substantially from an average 1,500 trips per month
in our first year to more than 4,600 passenger trips a month in 2012.
“Happy 5th anniversary BC Transit and Nicola Valley Transit and what a
successful 5 years it has been,” said Susan Roline, Mayor of the City of
Merritt. “Ridership has increased, coverage has expanded and residents
both of the City of Merritt and Lower Nicola have benefited by having access
to a reliable and usable service. It enhances residents’ ability to attend
work, school and to frequent Merritt’s merchants. The City looks forward
to continued partnering arrangements and the presence of BC Transit in our community.”
“Congratulations Merritt residents on five terrific years of transit service,”
said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “Together with our
partners at the City of Merritt, the Thompson Nicola Regional District and the
Lower Nicola Indian Band, we have an efficient and effective transit system
that we can all be proud of.”
Join BC Transit, The City of Merritt, Thompson Nicola Regional District,
