Time for your back-to-school/work commute refresher!
Did you know that BC Transit buses carry approximately 13,000 people a day around the Kelowna region? Traditionally, the busiest time for any transit system is in the first couple of weeks after Labour Day.
Here’s how you can make your commute smoother during that exceptionally busy season:
-
Plan ahead – We encourage customers to arrive at their stop about 5 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Have your fare payment ready before you get on the bus. Remember that monthly passes or tickets, or using your U-PASS, will help speed up the time it takes to board.
Check out your route options with the BC Transit Trip Planner. Trip Planner helps you find the best way to go. Enter your start and end destination points, and the time you want to travel, to get the best three trip plan options. Start planning your trip by visiting BCTransit.com or call 250-860-8121
-
Patience is a virtue – There maybe unexpected delays due to congestion, construction or other factors. Please be patient with our staff and your fellow transit users, and we will get you to your destination safely.
-
Adjust your personal commute – During peak times, BC Transit sees an increase in ridership, making your commute busier. If you can avoid those peak travel times by adjusting your schedule to take an earlier or later bus it can make a big difference.
-
While you’re on the bus – Move as far to the back of the bus as you can and please don’t crowd the exit. Keep your backpack on your lap or (if you’re standing) on the floor between your feet. Courtesy seating is the front accessible area of the bus and helps customer who use scooters, wheelchairs or other mobility aids, customers with a disability or mobility issue and customers with baby strollers.
We encourage you to use active transportation options, such as taking the bus (every bus trip begins and ends with a walk), biking, or walking to work. You’ll save money, be more active and connect with your community!
