Time for your back-to-school/work commuter refresher!
Traditionally, the busiest time for any transit system is in the first couple of weeks after Labour Day. BC Transit carries about 100,000 people a day on fifty routes around the Greater Victoria region. We would encourage you to consider an active form of transportation, including taking the bus (every bus trip begins and ends with a walk), biking, or walking to work. You’ll save money, get active, and more!
So how do you get a smoother commute during that exceptionally busy week? BC Transit has a few handy hints:
-
Plan ahead –We encourage customers to arrive at their stop about 5 minutes before it is scheduled to arrive. Have your fare payment ready before the bus arrives. Remember that monthly passes or tickets, or using your U-PASS, will help speed up the time it takes to board.
Check out your route options with the BC Transit Trip Planner. Trip Planner helps you find out the best way to go. Enter your starting and destination points and the time you want to travel to get the best three trip plans Start planning your trip by visiting BCTransit.com or calling 250-382-6161. To find out when the next bus is coming when you are at a stop, text the 6-digit Stop ID code to 11111 to find out the next 3 scheduled bus arrivals.
-
Patience is a virtue – There maybe unexpected delays due to congestion or other factors. Please be patient with our staff and your fellow transit users, and we will get you there.
-
Adjust your personal commute – During peak times, BC Transit sees an increase in ridership, making your commute busier. If you can avoid those peak travel times by adjusting your schedule to take an earlier or later bus it can make a big difference.
-
While you’re on the bus – Move as far to the back of the bus as you can and please don’t crowd in the exitway. Keep your backpack on your lap or (if you’re standing) on the floor between your feet. Courtesy seating is the front accessible area of the bus and helps customer who use scooters, wheelchairs or other mobility aids, customers with a disability or mobility issue and customer with baby strollers.
