Maintenance Facility Project 2017-19

BC Transit is working with the Government of Canada, Province of BC and the Cowichan Valley Regional District to create a new maintenance and operations facility for the Cowichan Valley Regional Transit System.
Construction is now underway at the corner of Polkey Road and Boal Road in Duncan’s Koksilah Industrial Park.
Maintenance Facility Project 2017-19 - Cowichan ValleySince 2000, Cowichan Valley Transit System ridership has risen over 140 percent. The new Cowichan Valley Transit Operations and Maintenance Facility will provide an opportunity for BC Transit and its partners to accommodate increased demands for transportation in the region. In addition to the improved operational functions of the new facility, the building design will accommodate future infrastructure upgrades required for alternative fleet technologies such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric buses.
When complete, the 4.5-acre site will include parking for up to 50 buses with the ability to expand in the future. The site will also include three vehicle maintenance bays, administrative space and onsite bus washing and fueling facilities.
Funding for this project is coming from the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund (PTIF), which was announced in June 2016 by the federal and provincial governments. Project completion is scheduled for winter 2019.
