Most bikes can be accommodated on BC Transit buses. If you’re considering travelling by bike and transit, please watch the instructional video to understand how to use the bike racks, found in front of all BC Transit buses.
Please note that bike space is limited and cannot be guaranteed. The cyclist is responsible for loading and unloading their bicycle, which must meet the following guidelines when on BC Transit buses:
- Saddlebags, antennas, child carriers or any other items that interfere with the driver’s vision must be removed.
- Bicycles on the bike rack must not interfere with any device on the bus (e.g. windshield wipers).
- Bike racks on community buses can only be used during daylight hours, as bikes block the headlights. All other BC Transit buses have no time of day restrictions.
- Folding bicycles are allowed onboard the bus if they are in a case and small enough not to obstruct the aisle.
- Electric scooters are allowed on board if they can be folded and stored between the seats or held
- Electric bicycles are only allowed on the bike rack when they weigh less than 25kg (55 lb.) and the battery (lithium only) is removed from the bike and brought on board the bus with the customer.
- Electric bikes with non-lithium batteries, as well as scooter style electric bikes (moped style) are not permitted on bike racks or onboard the bus.
Many BC Transit buses in our fleet across the province can now accommodate bikes with tires up to three inches (75 millimetres), while others can take bikes with tires up to two inches (50.8 millimetres).
