How Fares Work

Before you board, it helps to know how payment works. Here’s what to expect when you’re riding with BC Transit.

How to Purchase Fare Products

  • You can purchase a Single Ride fare from your driver.
  • You can purchase a Fare Product from your local vendor.

How To Pay When You Board

You can pay using cash, or you can use a Fare Product for your Single Ride fare when you get on the bus.

  • Make sure you have exact change to pay your Single Ride fare.
  • Insert your coins or bills into the farebox.
  • If you’re using a Monthly Pass, or DayPASS, you will need to show it to your driver. Tickets can be put in the fare box.

Transfers

If you’re paying with cash or tickets and need to take more than one bus, ask the driver for a transfer when you pay your fare.

Transfers are free and valid for one-way travel on your first connecting bus at designated transfer points.

When you board your connecting bus, show your transfer to the driver with the time visible and facing up.
