Clothing
For everyone’s safety, you need to wear a shirt and footwear to board the bus. If you’re coming from the beach or pool, please ensure your clothes are dry.
Delays and detours
The BC Transit website has the most up-to-date information about scheduled service changes, delays, or detours. Check our alerts to see which routes are affected.
Driver facilities and breaks
- At times the operator may need to step off the bus for a short period of time. They’ll let you know when this happens.
- Our BC Transit washrooms are for employee use only.
Human rights
As a public service, BC Transit upholds the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms in its conduct with employees and customers.
Literature and handouts
The distribution of unauthorized material by any person on a BC Transit bus is prohibited.
Lost & found
- Lost something? We keep found items for at least 14 days. Call the number listed on our contact page or in your Rider’s Guide for help.
- Found something? Please hand it to the operator. They’ll make sure it gets to our Lost & Found team.
No smoking
Provincial tobacco laws (The Tobacco Control Act) prohibit smoking in bus shelters, on transit vehicles at all times and within 3 metres (10 feet) of the bus.
Electronic cigarettes are also not permitted on transit vehicles or on property controlled by BC Transit.
Seatbelts on buses
BC Transit buses are exempt from Motor Vehicle Act regulations when the vehicle is not equipped or required.
When our buses are equipped with seatbelts, there will be signage stating the legal requirements of passengers to wear the seatbelts provided.
Child seats and booster seats
If your child is under 9 years of age they must be secured by one of the following:
- Held on a guardian’s lap.
- Buckled into a seatbelt using an appropriate child seat or booster seat when the bus has shoulder belts.
- In a stroller with brakes applied.
- Some buses are equipped with an Integrated Child Seat (ICS) with a 5-point harness, and should be used.
- Do not use a booster seat with only a lap belt.
Seatbelt extenders
- Only BC Transit supplied OEM extenders may be used (Personal extenders not allowed)
- Use only if the seatbelt doesn’t reach after testing.
Stop announcements
- Our buses use automated systems to announce and display each stop.
- If unavailable, the operator will call out stops clearly.
- Need help identifying your stop? Sit near the front and remind the operator.
