Adding a New User
Click on the “Add New” button at the top of the screen. Fill in the required information, including the user’s username, email address, and password. You can also choose the user’s role, which determines their level of access to your site, and assign users to a subsite.
Updating Users
Find the user in the list and click on their username. Make any desired changes to the user’s information and click the “Update User” button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.
Assigning Roles
WordPress comes with several built-in user roles, including “Administrator”, “Editor”, “Author”, “Contributor”, and “Subscriber”. These roles have been modified to encompass more granular permissions, and some custom roles have also been added.
- Super Administrator: Super Administrators have full control over the site, including all its settings, content, and plugins. They can add, edit, and delete any content, as well as manage users and perform other administrative tasks.
- Editor: Editors can manage and publish, unpublish, archive, delete: posts, pages and media. They can also manage categories and tags and move content.
- Site Editor: Site Editors have the ability to administer all content in all sites. They can read, write, create, delete, publish, unpublish, archive: posts, pages and media and move content. They also have access to the extended editor blocks.
- Site Administrators: Site Administrators are Administrators that have the ability to add/remove editors for specified sites. They do not have configuration management permissions because that is managed by the Super Administrators. They do not have template management permissions because template changes go through a rigorous change control process.
- Designers: Designers are Site Editors that have access to edit theme options, and switch the theme on the site.
- Author: Authors can create and publish their own posts, but they cannot make changes to other users’ content.
- Contributor: Contributors can read, write and submit posts, pages and media for review, but they cannot publish them.They also have restricted editor block access.
