As part of ongoing efforts to optimize resources and focus on core services, BC Transit has made the difficult decision to discontinue free Transit Royale subscriptions, which offer an upgraded version of the Transit App, effective April 29.
BC Transit remains committed to providing accurate and accessible transit information to meet customer needs. Riders can still plan their trips on multiple platforms including the Transit App, the Umo Mobility app, and Google Maps. BC Transit is also focused on improving BCTransit.com to ensure our riders can get the trip planning information they need.
The Transit App remains a free and valuable tool for our customers, providing access to the following features:
- Trip planning details and next departures for the top three nearby routes;
- The ability to browse unlimited transit schedules;
- Up-to-the-minute BC Transit service alerts, detours and advisories – including push notification opt-in;
- Directions, trip notifications, stop alerts, and alternate routes;
- The ability to save your favourite, regular routes from home, school and work.
In partnership with the Transit App, BC Transit has provided customers with free subscriptions to Transit Royale for the past two years. Transit Royale offers riders additional trip planning features like a wider geographical range for real-time bus tracking, the ability to view all transit routes, app customization options and the ability to play games on the app during their transit journey.
On April 29, new and existing Transit App users will experience Transit Royale with the paywall. Users will have the option to subscribe to Transit Royale for $4.99 per month or $24.99 for the year. BC Transit understands this is a valued trip-planning tool for some riders and thanks our customers for their understanding.
