Transit System: Columbia Valley, Cranbrook, Creston Valley, Elk Valley, Kimberley
Effective March 1, 2025, all transit service in the East Kootenay region will be provided by PWTransit Canada. This includes fixed route, handyDART, Health Connections and Paratransit services.
PWTransit Canada has assumed the contract for the East Kootenay region through an assignment agreement between NextGen Transit Inc and PWTransit Canada Ltd. with the endorsement of BC Transit. This includes services in the Columbia Valley (Canal Flats, Invermere and Radium), Cranbrook, Creston, Elk Valley (Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford) and Kimberley transit systems.
Transit service in the East Kootenay Region will not be impacted by this change in operating companies, including all routes, schedules and fares.
BC Transit would like to thank NextGen Transit for their commitment to providing service in the East Kootenay region. They will continue to operate service until March 1, and all unionized NextGen Transit employees currently working in public transit will be offered comparable roles with PWTransit Canada.
PWTransit Canada provides transportation services across Canada, including several contracts within British Columbia on behalf of BC Transit. They will assume the existing contract that was established May 1, 2021. The nine-year agreement expires March 31, 2030, with allowable extensions up to a total of 15 years.
