Downtown Comox transit exchange construction project resumes next week

Work will resume the week of February 23 at the future site of a new transit exchange in downtown Comox. Construction started in September 2025 and was paused in November due to possible archaeological material discovered and indications that further assessment was needed.

BC Transit continues working closely with the Ministry of Forests’ Archaeology Branch to ensure all required permits are in place and all protocols are followed. The assessment of the site will require lighter construction activities, with work increasing over the coming weeks.

Some traffic changes on Port Augusta Street between Comox Avenue and Balmoral Avenue will be in place during the project as the southbound traffic lane and adjacent sidewalk will be temporarily closed. People driving, cycling, and walking should watch for signage in the area.

During this time, transit customers are asked to use alternative bus stops at Beaufort Avenue at Wilcox Street for route 3 and Comox Avenue for routes 1 and 4. Customers should continue to look for signage and check for customer alerts that will advise of any changes or delays to routes. Customers can sign up for alerts on the BC Transit Alerts webpage at https://alerts.bctransit.com/

BC Transit apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks the public for its patience.
