The Sooke Local Area Transit Plan outlines interim improvements for transit service and infrastructure over the next seven to fifteen years. It is one of nine focused Local Area Transit Plans being developed across the Victoria Regional Transit System.
Public Consultation – Phase One
Phase one of public consultation took place in October and November, 2018 at locations across Sooke. Transit Future Open Houses were hosted at Edward Milne Middle School, Seaparc Leisure Centre, Sooke Town Centre Bus Stop, Sooke Transit Exchange and Beecher Bay. At each, the public was encouraged to provide feedback on transit improvements within Sooke and the Victoria Regional Transit System. In addition to open houses, an online survey was deployed to capture feedback from members of the public that could not attend an open house in person.
Options Development Workshop
In February 2019, we held two workshops, one with community stakeholders and engaged transit riders, and the second with our transit operators. At each workshop, we discussed concerns or challenges that were identified in the first phase of engagement and developed route concepts to address the concerns.
Public Consultation – Phase Two
We’ll be back to Sooke on Thursday, December 5, 2019 to hold two Local Area Transit Plan open houses to share the transit service improvement ideas we have developed and hear your thoughts about them. The Ministry of Transportation will also be joining us to share information about Highway 14 improvements.
Drop in to visit us at one of our two booths:
SeaParc Leisure Centre 1:30 to 3:30 pm December 5, 2019
Edward Milne Community School 5:30 to 8:30 pm December 5, 2019
Can’t make it out? Take part in our online survey to provide your feedback until December 13, 2019.
Timeline
This process allows us to develop service improvements before we finalize the plan for endorsement by the Victoria Regional Transit Commission. Once endorsed, BC Transit will start to implement changes to improve the transit system.
