The City of Prince George works hard to maintain safe road conditions during winter weather. When the city receives, accumulated snowfall of 20 centimetres or more in a 24-hour period, the City, in cooperation with the Prince George RCMP, will issue a Heavy Snowfall Declaration. This results in a shift in their snow clearing priorities and activates BC Transit’s adverse weather routing for the Prince George Transit System. Heavy snowfall declarations are announced on local television and radio stations, and online on the
city’s website and social media channels.

The safety of our customers and drivers is our top priority, and there are times when ice and snow can result in changes to BC Transit’s existing schedule on short notice.
Delays are likely during icy conditions and poor visibility; detours may be required for certain routes due to elevation changes or unplowed roads and full-service cancellations can occur when travel of any kind is determined to be unsafe.
For the most up-to-date information and trip planning, people can check our website or use the Transit App. When a change to scheduled service is required,
customer alerts are posted as soon as possible. BC Transit also encourages customers to sign up to receive route specific email notifications.
Our operating partners in the North work hard to get our customers to their destination safely. All BC Transit vehicles are equipped with appropriate tires and our drivers are professional Class 2 trained to operate their buses in challenging conditions.
Public transit is a great alternative to driving and reduces the number of cars on the road in winter weather. For those choosing to take the bus during adverse weather conditions, here are some travel tips to consider:
