Transit Future Public Consultation
The Transit Future Plan includes consultation with you and with our municipal partners.
Your input and support is vital to the success of the plan. It has helped BC Transit refine and evaluate the Transit Future Network and raise awareness and public support for the plan.
Transit Future Bus
The Transit Future Bus was our public consultation on wheels, helping BC Transit connect with over 4200 people throughout the region.
The Transit Future Bus included:
- Interactive and educational displays
- The Game Plan at our iPad station
- Kid's Zone
- The Transit Future Team, ready to help you learn more about transit
The Transit Future Bus visited over 20 events in September and October 2010. Events included farmers markets, recreational events and shopping areas. Click on the map to see where weve been.

The website contains information about the plan and how to participate and provide input on their transit needs, priorities and concerns.

Transit Future: The Game Plan was developed for the community to provide direct feedback on:

Heres what we heard from you during Victorias Transit Future Road Tour:
Transit Future Stakeholder Workshop
A Transit Future Stakeholder workshop was held on October 26 2010. The workshop provided more in depth information on the plan and was a forum to get feedback from stakeholders. Participants included neighborhood associations', student groups, representatives of key institutions/agencies, first nations and transportation groups.
Guests participated in focus groups on the Transit Future Plan which included transit funding, customer service, the future network and the relationship between transportation and land use.
Some of the themes that arose during the workshop were:
- Support for Rapid Transit and green vehicle technologies
- The desire to investigate alternative funding sources
- Requirement for improved political coordination (Federal, Provincial and Local)
- Improved integration with active modes of transportation
- Support for transit supportive mixed use development
- Desire for customer information technology such as real time customer information
- Willingness to transfer transit services if service is more frequent and direct
- Desire for improved connections to Swartz Bay and the Airport

Summary
- Customers of all abilities should be able to travel spontaneously
- All transit stops and exchanges should meet universal accessibility standards
- Transit vehicles should be fully accessible with the latest technology (e.g., audible stop announcements)
- Customer information should be available in formats for people with hearing and visual impairments
Rapid Transit Open Houses
BC Transit hosted 12 open houses from March 2009 to December 2010 for the Victoria Regional Rapid Transit and Transit Future projects. The focus of these open houses was the Victoria Regional Rapid Transit Project.
Open House Themes:
- data collection
- project definition phase
- evaluating alignment options
- screening detailed alignment options
- preferred alignment and technology evaluation
The open houses also provided information on the Transit Future Network. Participants had the opportunity to provide feedback on the network and identify their priorities for service improvements.
