Based on a record number of public responses, the Victoria Regional Transit Commission has approved a new fare structure for Greater Victoria effective on April 1, 2013.
In a span of over two months, we received more than 1300 survey responses, telephone calls, emails and mailed comments. Thank you to everyone who responded.. The Commission members very much appreciate your comments and feedback.
The new fare structure lowers or keeps prices the same for 11 out of
12 major fare categories. Tickets are still available and do not increase
in price. Seniors and youth can save 40% off the new cash fare by purchasing
sheets of 10 tickets in advance. Learn
more about the significant savings available to all our customers
when purchasing tickets and passes.

The Victoria Regional Transit Commission is considering its financial strategy for the next three years. Fares are an important part of the funding strategy. In funding higher costs associated with maintaining or expanding transit service, the Commission strikes a balance between the fare revenue and property taxes.
In the past few years, we have seen more people in the Capital region choose transit. In response, we have expanded our services and our fleet to make transit more convenient, reliable, and available to more customers.
At the September 11, 2012 Commission meeting, the Victoria Regional Transit Commission received the Three Year Service and Financial Strategy report for information, and endorsed the fare options presented to proceed to public consultation.
As requested by the Commission, BC Transit is conducting a fare review. If approved, the changes would begin April 1, 2013. The fare adjustment will allow BC Transit to maintain the same level of service to the Victoria Regional Transit System plus a modest expansion.
