Our Plans
Help us build a better future for Central Okanagan's Transit.
BC Transit is developing the Central Okanagan Master Plan to address the region's developing needs. The plan spans the full transit network including all regular bus routes, community shuttles, handyDART, and other transit support services.
To build a fully robust plan, several phases and deliverables are required:
- Public Consultation: A critical element in the Master Plan's success, both in defining requirements and in gauging ongoing success as projects move forward.
- Data Collection: Findings from system operations and performance reviews; Automatic Passenger Counts; surveys; public feedback; and use of local government Community Plans, census and forecasts.
- The Vision: To guide the development of the future transit system in the region.
- The 25-Year Transit Network: Designed for 2035, the future network includes corridors by service type, hours of operation, frequency, and necessary fleet and facilities.
- Steps for Implementation: An outline of the required steps and associated costs to take us to 2035.
Community Consultation
In cooperation with our local partners and community members like you, BC Transit presents the proposed network vision. Included in the 25 year map are two services:
- Frequent Transit Network: Service every 15 minutes, for 15 hours per day, 7 days per week, at a minimum. This network focuses on reliable and simple services that allow you to walk to the bus stop without looking at a schedule, knowing the next bus will never be more than 15 minutes away.
- RapidBus: Service every 15 minutes, for 15 hours per day, 7 days per week. This network focuses on fast and direct service by stopping less along the route and providing modern stations designed for quick boarding. Displays that tell you exactly how many minutes until the next bus arrives is just one of the amenities that can be included at stations.
Ongoing data collection and analysis, including public feedback, continues as we build on the Central Okanagan Master Plan. This plan will continue to involve a great deal of public involvement through consultations, feedback mechanisms and communication updates.

Environmental impacts and concerns continue to be a priority for individuals, communities, governments and businesses in Canada and around the world.
What BC
Transit wants to do:
We are actively monitoring our carbon footprint through
our participation in the B.C. Government Climate Action Plan. We are committed
to reducing our impact on the environment. Some ways we're doing this is through
installing special cleaning filters and catalysts on 180 buses and using a biodiesel
blend for fuel an environmentally-friendly and renewable energy source that
helps reduce greenhouse gas and tailpipe emissions.
