Central Okanagan's Future
Central Okanagan is one of the fastest growing regions in B.C. Help build its future.
As Central Okanagan's population grows, diversifies and ages, there is greater demand for a wider range of transit options, services and enhancements.
- Transit routes and technologies will change and expand
- Increased ridership, with diversified needs, require broadened transit amenities
- Transit plans, land use and community needs become more interdependent
By 2035, the population will increase over 40% reaching over a ¼ million people in the Central Okanagan.
BC Transit is developing the Central Okanagan Transit Master Plan to address the region's developing needs. Part of our planning for the region also includes evaluating RapidBus service: offering faster, more efficient transit options in key areas of the Central Okanagan.
To help plan for and prioritize future services in the region, we will continue to work with you to gather feedback, input, opinions and priorities to help build a better transit future. The needs of our communities help drive the plans for our future.
The aging population of tomorrow will have different needs and will change travel patterns in the region. During peak travel periods, the percentage of trips for recreation, leisure and to medical centres may compete with current needs.

By 2036, B.C.'s population is expected to grow from 4.4 million to 6 million.
What BC
Transit wants to do:
As our population grows and diversifies, we look to
expand and enhance services. We'll address the higher volumes and community needs
through rapid and frequent options, enhanced routes and a focus on customer service.
