Problem Definition Report Completed
Analysis of transit priority options between Colwood Interchange and the Langford terminus through View Royal and Colwood is underway. Detailed assessments of congestion, delay and traffic volumes have been collected. Multiple account evaluations of the costs and benefits of various transit priority options will shortly be undertaken.

Preferred Option Plans Submitted
Preliminary plans for outside lane bus only lanes have been submitted to the Ministry of Transportation for their review and further discussion with respect to design and implementation of these facilities. Curb side bus only lanes are the preferred means of extending transit priority from the end of the median busway at Carey Road to Colwood Interchange where service would leave the Highway to serve View Royal, Colwood and Langford.
The curb bus lanes have been estimated to cost over $12 million dollars. These costs are preliminary and represent only the costs of widening, not of full development of a BRT right-of-way. For example, they exclude several important features such as station platforms and access. As discussions take place, these plans will be developed further to a higher level of detail, facility and cost.

Discussions continue with the Ministry of Transportation regarding transit priority options for Highway 1 between Saanich Road and Colwood Interchange. A variety of options were considered, including using shoulders for bus lanes, adding curb-side HOV/bus lanes, and creating an exclusive median right-of-way.
A detailed alignment plan of BC Transit’s preferred option is being prepared for submission to the Ministry of Transportation for its consideration.
Details of that plan will be available here in the near future.
