Making Transit a Priority

This site describes a vision for the development of a regional rapid transit network. Transit services will be enhanced into Bus Rapid Transit services on three key corridors serving the Western Communities and the Saanich Peninsula and University of Victoria which will become the backbone of the transit system.

The Capital Regional District's Regional Growth and Travel Choices strategies support public transit as an essential piece of the long-term transportation strategy. BC Transit's Rapid Transit Development Plan describes how today's transit services will evolve into Rapid Bus service.

The Douglas Street Busway is the first stage of the region's rapid transit system, linking communities in the core area, Peninsula and Westshore. Starting with rapid bus service, and evolving to Light Rail Transit, the project will achieve the goals of the region and its municipalities for more sustainable transportation. The busway and regional rapid bus service on further extensions of bus lanes is a key component to achieve the environmental goals of the Provincial Transit Plan.
