Low Floor Bus
The Victoria Regional Transit system offers a range of travel options for seniors and persons with disabilities including a low-floor bus.
How to use Low-Floor Buses
Using low-floor buses is easy, especially if you use mobility aids or have trouble with stairs. A low-floor bus can kneel to lower the entry level of the bus. The bus also has a loading ramp to help you get on and off the bus. Each bus has two spaces for wheelchairs or scooters.
Over 80 percent of our buses are low-floor buses.
Riding the bus is easy as 1 - 2 - 3!
- check which bus route and time you want before you make your trip. Be at the bus stop five minutes before the expected time.
- Pay your fare when you get on the bus. Show your handyPASS if an attendant is travelling with you.
- Let your transit operator know if you need time to reach your seat and to get on and off the bus.
Buses run 365 days a year, usually from 6:00 am until past midnight.
If you use a wheelchair or scooter or have difficulty with stars, you should either check the route schedule on the web or contact Customer Service at 382-6161 and press "zero".
Please remove flags from your wheelchair or scooter, and store parcels away from the securement attachments of your aid.
Getting Help onto the Bus
When you travel by low-floor bus, the bus driver can:
- Kneel the bus or lower the ramp, at your request, when you get on and off the bus
- secure your wheelchair or scooter
- call out your requested bus stop
- deposit your fare or swipe your passcard if you cannot, and
- help you in an emergency situation.
If you have difficulty depositing your fare, have the correct fare ready in a bag or an envelope that is easily accessible and visible to the driver. The driver is not allowed to access your pockets, purse or backpack to obtain the fare.
Travelling with an Attendant
An attendant may travel with you if you use a wheelchair or scooter, or you have a handyPASS ID Card or you are a CNIB passholder. Attendants must board and exit at the same stop as you and will help to load and secure your mobility aid. Attendants do not pay a fare.
Accessible Stops
The bus ramp can only be lowered at designated bus stops. These stops are identified by a blue decal for full accessibility and a yellow decal for accessibility with caution.
Missing Your Stop
If you miss your bus stop, the driver will take you to your next accessible stop or, if requested, make arrangements to transport you to your stop. You will not be left in an isolated or unsafe location.
