When do the buses run?Slocan Valley Transit Service: Nakusp Transit Service: Kaslo Transit Service: Nelson handyDART Service: handyDART and the rural transit system run Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Where do the buses run?The Slocan Valley transit service covers Nelson, Granite Road, Beasley, Bonnington, Playmor, Crescent Valley, Slocan Park, Passmore, Winlaw, Perry Siding, Lemon Creek and Slocan. The Nelson transit service covers Nelson, Salmo, Shoreacres/Krestova, The Slocan Valley, Taghum and Six Mile. The Nakusp and District Paratransit service covers Nakusp, Burton, Fauquier, Edgewood, Nakusp Hot Springs, Summit Lake, Hills, New Denver, Silverton and Slocan. The Kaslo and District Paratransit service covers Kaslo, Shutty Bench, Mirror Lake, Ainsworth Hot Springs and Balfour. FaresYou may pay with cash (exact coin fare only, drivers carry no change), Multi-Ride Card, Ticket, DayPass, monthly bus pass or one of the other types of pass available in your community, including BC Bus Pass where available. Boarding the BusYou may board only at designated stops, via the front door of the bus. Have your fare ready when you board the bus, or display your entire Pass to the driver. Priority SeatingThe priority seating up front on the bus is designated for people with disabilities, passengers with children in strollers and seniorsin that order. Please respect the priority seating designations, and be prepared to move if the driver asks you to. Safety on the BusPlease remain seated or hold onto one of the stanchions when the bus is in motion. Do not put your arms or elbows out of the window. Do not bring combustible materials such as wet-cell batteries and gasoline containers onto the bus. To request a stop, pull the bell cord in time for your driver to be able to stop safely. Getting off the BusAfter leaving the bus, wait until the bus pulls away and you have a clear view of any oncoming traffic before you cross the street. To get off the bus in rural areas with no designated bus stops, ask the driver to find a safe place to stop. Passenger ResponsibilityWhen your bus is approaching your stop, make sure you are in clear view of the driver and use the "transit wave" to alert the driver that you are waiting for that bus. If the bus coming is not your bus, take a step back to signal to driver that you are not waiting for that bus. Have your fare ready when you get on the bus or display your entire Monthly Pass to the driver. If you are eligible for discount fare, please display your ID. If you are using a Walkman or other portable music player, please ensure you are not disturbing other passengers by keeping the volume down. When darkness approaches, it becomes difficult for drivers to see people at bus stops, especially along unlit roads. Please take safety precautions by wearing light-coloured clothing, or clothing with reflective material and by carrying a lit flashlight. Child SafetyFor infants up to 22 lbs, parents must provide a rear facing infant seat. For children over 22 lbs, parents may provide a car seat or booster seat whichever is most appropriate for the age/size of the child. If parents choose not to provide a child seat, children must use the seatbelt provided in the bus. Lost and FoundIf you lose something on the bus, call Lost and Found at 1-877-843-2877. If you find something on the bus, give it to the driver, who will deliver it to Lost and Found. The Transit System staff will keep articles in Lost and Found for up to 30 days, then send the articles to a charitable organisation. |
