The City of Prince and BC Transit are developing a long-range
Transit Business Plan that will provide a vision for transit
service in Prince George. The plan is guided by what changes
you would like to see in your transit system, combined with
the key land use and transportation policies of the City.
Developing the Plan
Currently, the Prince George Transit System operates about
60,000 annual hours of conventional transit service. The proposed
plan includes a service increase of roughly 25% in the short
range period (1-3 years) and a further 90% in the medium range
period (4-11 years).
In total, the projected plan would more than double the existing
service level in Prince George by 2020. Timing of the implementations
will be adjusted depending on the level of transit demand,
local priorities, and funding availability.
The Service Plan
Today the Prince George Transit System has 30-60 minute
peak period service frequencies and 60-minute midday and evening
frequencies on most routes. Similar sized transit systems
to Prince George have 15-minute peak and 30-minute midday
service frequency.
In a recent survey, Prince George transit users identified
the need for more service frequency. As a result, many of
the service improvements outlined for the short and medium
range periods are aimed at improving service frequency.
