Proposed Transit Routes for Cowichan Valley - 2009

Cowichan Valley Transit carries over 330,000 passengers each year. Frequent, reliable transit service is the key to good transit service.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District and BC Transit are reviewing the transit routes and schedules of the local transit system to provide more direct routes and simpler schedules. Please take a few minutes to read the proposed changes and let us know how these changes can work for you.

How does the proposed plan benefit me?
The proposed service will provide transit customers with more direct connections with fewer transfers. On some trips, travel times will be reduced.

There will be two-way bus traffic on some transit routes throughout the day. Two-way routes are more effective and reduce the number of trips going in one direction.

Key changes

Duncan service:

  • 1 Gibbins - incorporated into #7 Cowichan Lake and marked as #7 Cowichan Lake via Gibbins
  • 2 Mt Prevost - two-way hourly service
  • 3 Quamichan - from downtown this route has been extended to include service to Cowichan Commons. The number of trips per day have been reduced
  • 4 Maple Bay: revised schedule with earlier arrival in Duncan and later departure to Maple Bay
  • 6 Crofton-Chemainus: improved connections and additional trip
  • 7 Cowichan Lake - incorporates Route #1 Gibbins. Express routes remain the same

South Cowichan:

  • service between Duncan and Valleyview (10 South Cowichan Connector)
  • hourly service with more frequencies in the peak periods (15 trips per day)
  • route alternates between Cowichan Bay and Highway 1
  • from Valleyview, southern destinations are served directly by 3 routes
    • Route 12 serves Shawnigan Lake and Mill Bay
    • Route 14 serves Cobble Hill and Mill Bay
    • Route 15 serves Mill Bay with routing that alternates between service to Arbutus Ridge and service in the Mill Bay residential areas

Cowichan Lake:

  • #7 Express: Express service along Hwy 18
  • #7 via Gibbins: local service along Cowichan Lake Road
  • Community bus service from the Town of Lake Cowichan to Youbou (# 20) and Honeymoon Bay (# 21)

We want to hear from you. After you review the proposed service, please give us your feedback.
