As of 13 April 2004, residents in the Cape Lazo/Point Holmes area and the Huband Road/Seal Bay area will have a Community Bus service.

The service will be available three times a day, Monday to Friday, to each of the service areas shown on the map. The service is available to all residents of the specified areas.

How it Works

The Community Bus trips provide door-to-door pick up and drop off at residents' homes within the specified areas. In town, passengers with disabilities can arrange for door-to-door drop off and pick up at their destinations. Other passengers will have an opportunity to travel to major exchange points where they can then transfer to and from regular Comox Valley Transit trips.

Getting Started

To use the service, call Comox Valley Transit at 339-5442. The first time you call, you may be asked for your name, address, and telephone number. People with disabilities who want to use the handyDART service may also be asked to provide handyDART registration information. This information will be kept confidential.

Booking a Trip

To book a trip, call Comox Valley Transit 24 hours before the trip window in which you wish to travel (see below for trip times). Comox Valley Transit can be reached at 339-5442 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday to Friday. At other times, a telephone answering service will provide recorded information.

There are two types of trip bookings:

• Regular subscription trips once a week or more often, such as for therapy appointments or to and from work
• One-time trips for other purposes such as shopping, social visits or recreation activities.

Trip Windows

The times listed below show the approximate times when service will be available to each area. Service operates Monday to Friday, not including Statutory Holidays. When you book your trip, the dispatcher will provide you with a closer estimate of your pick-up time as well as the approximate drop-off time at your destination. The dispatcher can also help you coordinate transfers onto the regular Comox Valley Transit System.

Transfers

It is free to transfer from the Community Bus service to other trips operated by Comox Valley Transit: just request a transfer from your driver. If transferring from the regular transit system to Community Bus, request a transfer and then pay the difference when you board the Community Bus.
