Transit services will increase fivefold in Whistler and includes frequent connecting service from Squamish and Pemberton to Whistler. The bus fleet will expand from 39 to 135 buses to serve the estimated 2.1 million customers expected during the month of February.
The existing Whistler routes will run more often, new routes will be introduced, and will run over longer hours. Some routes, like the Squamish and Pemberton connectors will run 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and most routes will run every 10 to 30 minutes.
BC Transits enhanced service begins February 1 and runs through to February 28. Check Schedules and Maps for start dates on each route. On March 1, BC Transit will return to regular winter service levels. The #10 Games Express will serve the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games from March 1 to March 21.
Yes. During our enhanced service period, BC Transit will operate around the clock, seven days a week on most routes to meet the needs of the workforce for the Games and the resort.
Tickets to events include complimentary access to BC Transit during the entire day of the event until 4:00 a.m.
BC Transit will provide service to two Olympic competition venues: Whistler Creekside (Alpine Skiing) and the Whistler Sliding Centre (Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton). The bus will take you to the designated loading and unloading zones at the two venues served by BC Transit.
There is no BC Transit to Whistler Olympic Park. Take the Whistler Olympic Park Express shuttle from designated stops in Whistler Village.
BC Transit's fully accessible, low-floor bus fleet will operate at normal winter service levels in Whistler, Squamish and Pemberton. The #10 Games Express in Whistler will also run March 1 to 21.
During the enhanced service period, all the existing bus routes will be in operation, and 8 new routes will be introduced. In Whistler, our goal is to have 90 percent of homes within 400 metres of a bus stop. New service areas are Alta Lake, Whistler Cay Heights, Nicklaus North, Bayshores, Kadenwood, Nordic Estates, Gondola Way and Pinecrest/Black Tusk.
During the 2010 Winter Games, the volume of buses will increase fivefold in Whistler. To accommodate the expanded bus fleet, the increased frequency of service, and for reasons of safety and security, BC Transit has split the routes between the two hubs: the Gondola Transit Exchange and the Main Street Transit Exchange.
To reach the Gondolas from the Main Street Transit Exchange, you may walk along the Village Stroll (about a 10-minute walk) or take the Special Shuttle service. The Special Shuttle operates from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, and is a direct route connecting Main Street and the Gondola Transit Exchange. The fare is $2, pass, or transfer.
Outside these Special Shuttle service hours, you will need to walk, two minutes, to Village Gate Boulevard, and catch the #1, #2, or the #6. You may also transfer before you reach the Main Street Exchange:

Public transit in Whistler is open to everyone. Residents, visitors, Olympic ticket holders, volunteers and workforce can all ride the BC Transit system in Whistler.
This website will be updated frequently and will contain information on bus routes, bus frequency, where to buy passes and customer alerts. A Rider's Guide booklet, listing all bus routes and maps, will be distributed before and during the Games. All buses and bus stops will be clearly marked.
There are generally three peak periods: between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m., between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. We recommend that you avoid using transit to run errands during these times, and if you do need to travel during peak periods, give yourself plenty of time.
Lost items can be collected from the Whistler Transit Centre at 8011 Highway 99. In February, lost items may be collected from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 7 days a week. Items will be held for 14 days then sent to the Whistler Recycling Centre. Items of value will be forwarded to the RCMP.
Yes, skis and snowboards will be allowed on-board the bus when space permits.
Only small pets that are fur-bearing or feathered and contained in a secure, clean, handheld cage are permitted on the buses. Certified assistance animals and avalanche dogs may continue to use public transit as always. Owners of assistance animals should be prepared to show the animal's verification of training. Before taking your pet on the bus, please read all guidelines about this policy online at www.bctransit.com.

Taking a private coach is the easiest way to travel between Whistler and Vancouver. Many commercial carriers offer this service. Check out www.travelsmart2010.ca for more information or the Links page on the BC Transit Games Service website.
If you choose to drive, the Sea to Sky commuter route will be open to vehicle traffic in February, though there may be traffic delays, road closures and parking restrictions. In addition, permits will be required between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. for private vehicles traveling north of Squamish.
Workers that live in Squamish and Pemberton but work in Whistler may use BC Transit's frequent connector services. This includes the Olympic workforce and volunteers, as well as the general workforce who are employed in Whistler businesses.
Pemberton Park & Ride facilities are located at the end of Prospect Street. After parking, walk to Frontier Street to access Pemberton Terminus.
There are no Park & Ride facilities in Squamish. You may make other arrangements for parking, or take a commercial carrier to Squamish. For more information on commercial carriers visit http://travelsmart2010.ca/arrivals-and-departures.
During the Games, the volume of buses will increase fivefold through the Gondola Transit Exchange. As a result, no private automobile, van or private bus access is allowed at the Exchange. Look for alternate pick-up and drop-off areas away from the Exchange to reduce congestion and improve your chance of successfully connecting with your ride.
No. Public parking in Whistler will be significantly reduced during the Games. BC Transit's goal is to have bus stops within 400 metres of 90 percent of the neighbourhoods in Whistler.
During February 2010, a separate fare structure will be in place to reflect the increased service, expanded service area and the specific needs of each community.
Purchasing one of the three attractively priced passes for the entire month of February is a cost-effective and convenient option for frequent users:
Cash fares in Whistler will be $2 per trip, with a transfer available upon request. The fare will be $6 for a one-way trip on the Pemberton Connector, and $10 for a one-way trip on the Squamish Connector. Current fare rates will apply on in-town service in Squamish and Pemberton. An exact cash fare is required as change will not be given. Click here for more pass and fare information.
Tickets to Olympic events include complimentary access to public transit during the entire day of the event until 4 a.m.
No. During BC Transit's enhanced Games Time service period, a separate fare structure will be in place to reflect the increased service available, the service area of the enhanced service and the needs of each community.
Yes.
No. The bus service in Metro Vancouver is operated by TransLink, while BC Transit will operate the system in Whistler, Squamish and Pemberton. BC Transit's February 2010 Pass or exact cash fare will be required to use the BC Transit system in Whistler or on either of the connecting services to Squamish or Pemberton.
All Games ticket holders will have access to public transit the day of their event by showing their event ticket, so a separate transit pass will not be required. Transportation on the Olympic Bus Network is a separate system from BC Transit's services.
You will still be able to pay exact cash fare on board the bus, but if you plan on using transit frequently, you'll see substantial cost-savings with the purchase of a February 2010 Pass.
A February 2010 Pass or $2 exact cash fare will be required on all Whistler routes, including the Village Shuttle. Transfers are available upon request.
During the enhanced transit period, one flat fee will be applied to all customers. The only exception to this would be children five and under ride for free. By having a single rate, it will improve efficiency, reduce administrative costs, and provides ease of use for the customer and transit operator, all important reasons during a very busy period.
